Linger Longer (Life Is Divine)

Dream of Life

Linger Longer was written whilst on an afternoon walk one afternoon in 2010. Ra and his wife stopped by a large pond and whilst observing the surrounds and enjoying the beauty of the place, the words "linger longer" came up in the conversation and they sounded very melodic. As Ra sung them the concept of lingering was to stay longer, the synonym "awhile" completed the line. The change in pitch/tone on "awhile" became the lovely melody twist, a perfect melody and lyrical hook. From this point the rest of the words just seemed to flow into his mind. The second line is not so much about innocence, more to do with enquiry, "What's life all about". A round pond, numerous places visited around the world. The walk continued through the wooded area around the pond, and sunlight flickered through the summer leaves, bringing a peace from life's trials. Strolling through an open field, and back to woodland paths, sometimes clear and other times a slight animal track. A Metaphor for life's journeys, a philosophical observation of life's creation, which can touch all generations. Verses 1 and 3 and chorus complete, all on a walk, Ra's most creative times. The second verse, also created on a walk, was concieved a month before going to Croatia and Geno saying he would like to do the song. Ra realised that two verses were not enough and the song required another verse. Remembering the stunningly beautiful beach he and his wife had been visiting every year since they met in 2006 and taking the first verse from day to night and nights spent on beaches throughout many people's life, the sound of waves, parties and music, the journeys we travel, and humanities desire for freedom from physical, financial, political dictatorship etc. and desire for freedom of thought, lending the philosophical link. So much more complex than just an afternoon stroll across the land. It is also a political song hence the "Life Is Divine". A thought to ponder.

As with all our productions the recording session commences with Geno on acoustic guitar and Ra singing the song to discover the chords and the instrumental melody. On this occasion the switch on "stay awhile" proved elusive and they moved to the studio where Geno chose a piano sound to find the base sound for the first line through the use of keyboard and computer manipulation. This is where the genius of Geno begins, capturing the musical emotion of the words, it could be said, finding the mood of the song. As they move forward other instruments are brought into play and ideas flow as in all creative environments. Another aspect of their creativity is seeking musical and lyrical delivery twists which bring a different aspect to both the verses and the chorus. it takes many listenings to fully appreciate the intrumental and vocal twists and emotion they bring to the overall sound. To be personal we feel that we blend magically together emotionally, almost an instinctive interaction, where we each suggest a sound and invariably we find agreement on what it brings to the contextual emotion sound that we attempt to acheive with all our songs. On this occassion it was for us more, magical and we both feel that this song is, emotionally, the best we have created.

We always listen to the instrumental of our songs and find that we enjoy the mix so much that we like the idea of including them in our list of recordings. On this occasion we had to add something to the mix. We will leave you to discover the difference.

Linger Longer Choral Mix

Whilst recording another song we experimented with a vocals mix adding only a light instrumental background which we really liked, it will be released later, and so we went for the same process with Linger Longer. The magic that Geno puts into Ra's voice is always a source of amazement to him and on this occasion Geno was inspired to add an excellent vocal twist. It's extremely satisfying hearing the vocals provide their own musical contribution.

The video was designed using 3 different video programs since no single program could create the style I was looking for. It is an attempt to give a people a visual understanding of the concepts behind the song and our own mini concert, since we will not be doing any live performances. There are many different aspects in it which require more than one screening to fully understand the nuances within the song and video. It is included in the EP.

Isn't it Nice

This song was inspired by two aspects of life. Being out with friends and enjoying the environment whatever that might be and two humans deeply in love with each other and the expression of that love.

There are three mixes of this song because we both loved the different images they inspired, the Tribal mix having a feeling of tribal sounds and the words are about a place where Ra proposed to his wife one summer holiday. The instrumental also added yet more dimensions to the ambiance of the song.

Like a RockStar (Part 1)

This song was created during Ra's rocking climbing period and was written and performed at a cabaret type show for the North London Climbing club. Smile in embarrassment. These are the the first two verses hence the part 1 reference. The others will be produced as and when we both have the time. It is a mature song and initially was written with love to commemorate a love story and the theme lent itself to a study of the many different forms of rock.
